Trending Tropicals® Collection: Meet Raven® ZZ
The wait is over! For months people have been asking us about Raven® ZZ plant. And we're proud to announce that it's finally ready for you. It's part of an exciting new line of plants called Trending Tropicals® collection.
This gorgeous newcomer is just as easy to grow as its green-leafed parent, but Raven® offers something dramatically different -- spectacular dark purplish-black foliage that doesn't fade as the leaves mature.
New foliage starts out green and turns dark, remaining that way throughout its life. It’s truly a one-of-a-kind introduction that’s super easy to grow.
Raven® is a variety of ZZ plant (which is short for Zamioculcas zamiifolia). These rugged houseplants are native to Africa where they’re naturally drought tolerant. In fact, each stem has a potato-like rhizome at its base that stores moisture when rainfall is scarce, making them an ideal plant for forgetful caretakers. Raven® is relatively slow growing, but will eventually get two to three feet tall.
Like it’s green-leafed parents, Raven® tolerates low light and thrives in to medium to bright light. Although it can tolerate some direct sun, it’s much happier in a slightly shadier spot in your home. Water it only when the soil surface feels dry to the touch. This plant won’t thrive in constantly wet soil and would much rather be too dry than too wet. In fact, it can survive a few weeks without water if it needs to!
Ideal for any room in your home, this plant's artistically arching branches and rich dark foliage make it a must-have houseplant for interior designers. Use single plants to dress up an office, bedroom or bath. Or, line up a series of young plants along your mantel, dining room table, or windowsill.
We love pairing it with plants that have variegated foliage to help contrast its deep, dark leaves. Try Raven® ZZ with Colorful Aglaonema, Begonia maculata, or Birkin philodendron for a stunning look.
Another bonus: Raven® ZZ plant will also help purify the air in your home or office, removing toxins in the atmosphere. Plus, scientific research shows being around houseplants can help reduce stress and make us feel better.
