Mercadonia Plant Features
Mercadonia is a plant you probably don't know -- but should! It's an amazingly easy to grow annual groundcover that forms a tight mat of dark green foliage punctuated by hundreds of cheery golden-yellow flowers. Once it starts, mercadonia continues blooming nonstop all the way through fall. It even takes a bit of foot traffic, making mercadonia perfect for planting between steppingstones or along pathways.
In the garden, few annual plants are showier for the front of garden beds and borders. Mercadonia is also a showy spiller for container gardens and window boxes -- and creates a lovely look when grown in hanging baskets.

Mercadonia Growing Instructions
Mercadonia grows best in full sun or part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Like many annuals, it prefers a soil rich in organic matter, so adding compost before planting should give you a better plant with more blooms. Water mercadonia during periods of drought to keep it growing and blooming profusely.
Fertilize mercadonia at planting time to help it get off to a good start. If you want to maximize blooms, fertilize a few times during the growing season. If you don't fertilize, it will still grow and bloom, though -- just not as much.
You don't need to worry about pruning mercadonia, either. If you need to cut it back to keep it from growing into other plants or on top of steppingstones, you can do so at any time.
Note: Mercadonia is a lovely groundcover, but it's not intended for human or animal consumption.
