Bolivian Sunset Gloxinia

Gloxinia sylvatica

Bolivian Sunset Gloxinia Plant Features

Bolivian Sunset gloxinia is a stunning winter-flowering shrub that shows off sprays of bold, red-orange flowers. These blooms are a delightful contrast to its shiny, dark green foliage. Because Bolivian Sunset gloxinia is a low grower (and easy), it's a fun choice for foundation plantings or along walkways in frost-free areas. Or you can use it to decorate rock gardens or alongside perennials (such as caladium or curcuma) in shaded or partially shaded beds and borders.

Note: This plant is also sometimes sold as Seemannia sylvatica.

Bolivian Sunset Gloxinia Growing Instructions

Grow Bolivian Sunset gloxinia in a partially shaded spot with moist, well-drained soil that has a lot of organic matter, such as compost, in it. Water during dry spells to keep this lovely flowering shrub from drying out completely.

Because Bolivian Sunset gloxinia is such a small plant, you don't need to worry about pruning it.

Fertilize in winter and early spring, if you'd like, with a general-purpose garden fertilizer. Follow the instructions on the packaging for proper application.

Note: Bolivian Sunset gloxinia is not intended for human or animal consumption.
