Enrich Your Home with Money Plant

Everyone knows that money doesn’t really grow on trees, but there is an easy-care houseplant that is said to bring prosperity and good luck to its owners. Money Tree, also called Pachira, mints clusters of large, bright green leaves that look great in any room. Money Tree is also a favorite plant for applications of Feng Shui. (Another Feng Shui plant pick is lucky bamboo.)

Money Tree is a tough plant that can take a lot of abuse (read forgetful owner). That said, it prefers bright light and slightly moist soil. This beauty is native to the tropics, so it loves humid conditions, making it an ideal choice for bathrooms or kitchens.

Pachira also thrives outdoors in a protected location during the summer. I always move my Money Tree to my front porch in the spring after all frost danger has passed. It thrives in the humid summer air and puts on a huge flush of new leaves. You just have to remember to bring your plant back indoors once nightly temperatures drop to 50 degrees.

Money Tree is often sold in a variety of forms from standard single trunk, to braided and even bonsai, making it a popular choice with interior decorators. You can also prune Money Tree at any time if you want to encourage your plant to remain bushy and compact.

Feed Money Tree with a little liquid houseplant fertilizer several times during the spring and summer. This will encourage new growth and healthier leaves (and more luck for you!).
